본 포스트는 여행잡지에 나온 영어 표현과 단어를 정리하는 프로젝트의 일환입니다. 글마다 표현 방식과 사용하는 단어가 다르기 때문에 가능한 다양한 글에서 나온 표현을 정리하려는 목적에서 이 프로젝트를 진행하고 있습니다.

CITADEL (LA CITADELLE DE QUÉBEC) 
시타델

 

One of the most popular summer attractions in Québec City is the changing of the guard at La Citadelle de Québec. The Citadel is home to the Royal 22 Regiment, the largest British military fortification in North America. 
Québec City에서 가장 인기있는 여름 명물 중 하나는 시타델 요새의 근위병 교대식입니다. 시타델은 북 아메리카에서 가장 큰 영국 군 방어시설인 왕실 22연대의 기지입니다.

• attraction: 명소, 명물

During the summer, visitors can watch the 35-minute ceremony that is held at 10 am daily on the parade ground. Click here for a schedule of admission fees. The most popular participant is the regimental mascot, Batisse the goat. 
여름 동안 방문객들은 연병장에서 매일 오전 10시에 열리는 35분 짜리 교대식을 볼 수 있습니다. 입장료 목록은 여기를 클릭하여 확인하세요. 가장 인기있는 참가자는 연대 마스코트인 염소 Batisse입니다.

• parade ground: 연병장
• schedule: 공식 목록(an official list of things)
• the regimental mascot, Batisse the goat: regimental mascot는 연대 마스코트 이며, Batisse the goat가 그 이름입니다. Batisse the goat는 별명(이름)을 말할 때 쓰는 구조로 별명(이름) + the + 원래 정체 라고 이해하시면 될 것 같습니다. 여기에서는 원래 goat (염소)인데 그 이름이 Batisse 인 마스코트 라는 의미입니다.

 

 

 

 

 

MONTMORENCY FALLS PARK 
몽모랑시 폭포 공원

 

The area’s natural beauty can be seen at Montmorency Falls Park. The waterfall is nearly 83 m high, which is 30 m higher than Niagara Falls. To get the best view, take the gondola up the mountain and walk across the suspended bridge. 
이 지역의 자연경관의 아름다움은 몽모랑시 폭포 공원에서 볼 수 있습니다. 이 폭포는 높이가 거의 83미터에 달하며 나이아가라 폭포보다 30미터 더 높습니다. 최고의 경관을 보기 위해서 곤돌라를 타고 산을 올라서 현수교를 건너세요.

• waterfall: 폭포
• ~(높이) high: 높이가 ~이다.
• a suspended bridge: 현수교

 

From there, you can walk down a seamlessly endless collection of stairways. Don’t worry though. The walk down doesn’t take too long, and you’ll be able to feel the spray of the falls at the bottom. 
거기서 부터 완만하게 끝없이 이어지는 계단을 내려가시면 됩니다. 하지만 걱정마세요. 오래 걷지 않으셔도 됩니다. 그리고 아래에서 폭포의 물보라를 느끼실 수 있을 것입니다.

• seamlessly: 갑작스러운 변화, 방해, 문제 같은 것들이 없이(without any sudden changes, interruptions, or problems)
• a collection of : = a lot of (things or people). endless에 이미 많다는 의미가 포함되어 있기 때문에 해석하지 않았습니다.
• stairsays: 계단
• walk: 걷는 것(명사도 됩니다)
• take long: (시간이) 오래 걸리다
• spray: 물보라

 

In the winter, the spray freezes at the base of the waterfall, forming a “sugar loaf” that becomes a popular attraction. 
겨울에는 물보라가 폭포의 아랫부분에서 얼어서 "설탕봉"을 형성하여 인기있는 명물이 됩니다.

• base: 아래 부분
• form: 형성시키다, 만들어내다
• sugar loaf:설탕봉
