“I do not at all know; but I _heard_ nothing of his going away when I was at Netherfield. I hope your plans in favour of the ——shire will not be affected by his being in the neighbourhood.”
“전혀 모르겠어요. 하지만 제가 Netherfield에 있을 때 그분이 어디로 간다는 소리를 못 들었어요. 당신의 —주에서의 계획이 Darcy 씨 때문에 영향받지 않길 바랄게요.”

• be affected by ~: ~에 의해 영향받다
• his being in the neighbourhood: 그가 마을에 있는 것 을 의미합니다.

 

“Oh! no—it is not for _me_ to be driven away by Mr. Darcy. If _he_ wishes to avoid seeing _me_, he must go.
“아! 아니요 - 제가 Dary 씨를 피하는 게 아닙니다. Darcy 씨가 저를 보는 걸 피한다면 Darcy 씨가 가야죠.

• drive ~ away: ~를 떠나고 싶게 만들다, 불쾌하게 만들어서 떠나게 하다

 

We are not on friendly terms, and it always gives me pain to meet him, but I have no reason for avoiding _him_ but what I might proclaim before all the world, a sense of very great ill-usage, and most painful regrets at his being what he is.
우리가 친한 사이가 아니고 Darcy 씨를 만나는 것이 저를 항상 불편하게 하지만 제가 그를 피할 이유가 없습니다. 제가 세상 사람들 앞에 분명히 말할 수 있는 건, 제가 아주 심한 취급을 받았다는 것과 Dary 씨가 그런 사람이라서 마음 아프지만 아주 유감이라는 것입니다.

• on friendly terms: 친한, 사이가 좋은
• proclaim: 선언하다, 분명히 보여주다
• ill-usage: 심한 취급, 잘못된 취급
• regret at ~: ~에 대한 유감

 

His father, Miss Bennet, the late Mr. Darcy, was one of the best men that ever breathed, and the truest friend I ever had; and I can never be in company with this Mr. Darcy without being grieved to the soul by a thousand tender recollections.
Bennet 양, 고인이 되신 Darcy 씨의 아버지는 아주 훌륭하신 분이셨고 저의 가장 진실된 친구셨습니다. 저는 Darcy 씨와 만나면 수많은 마음 따뜻한 추억이 떠올라 영혼까지 슬픔에 잠깁니다.

• one of the best men that ever breathed: 숨을 쉬었던(살아 있었던) 가장 훌륭한 사람들 중 하나 라는 의미입니다.
• be in company with ~: ~와 함께하다
• without ~ing: ~하지 않고. Darcy 씨와 만나서 고인에 대한 기억으로 슬퍼하지 않고는 같이 있을 수 없다 라는 의미입니다.
• grieved by ~: ~때문에 슬픈
• tender: 마음 따뜻한, 상냥한, 다정한
• recollection: 기억, 추억

 

His behaviour to myself has been scandalous; but I verily believe I could forgive him anything and everything, rather than his disappointing the hopes and disgracing the memory of his father.”
Darcy 씨가 저에게 한 행동은 모욕적이지만, Darcy 씨의 아버지의 바람을 좌절시키고 그분에 대한 기억에 먹칠하는 것이 아니라면 저는 Darcy 씨가 무슨 짓을 하든지 용서할 수 있다고 진심으로 생각하고 있습니다.”

• scandalous: 모욕적인, 수치스러운, 도덕이나 법을 어겨서 분노를 불러일으키는
• verily: 참으로, 진정으로
• anything and everything: 무엇이든지
• disappoint: 실망시키다, 좌절시키다
• disgrace: 먹칠하다

 

Elizabeth found the interest of the subject increase, and listened with all her heart; but the delicacy of it prevented further inquiry.
Elizabeth는 그 주제에 대한 흥미가 점점 커지는 것을 느꼈고 열심히 경청했지만, 민감한 사안이었기 때문에 더 질문할 수 없었다.

• increase: 증가하다
• with all her heart: 온 정성을 다해서, 진심으로
• delicacy: 섬세함, 사안의 민감함
• prevent: 막다
